If you’ve spent any time managing online forms, you know how crucial it is to have the right tool. I’ve been in the trenches with Jotform for a while and, to be honest, I wasn’t even looking for a new form software. But sometimes, the best things happen when you least expect them. That’s exactly how I stumbled upon Fillout, and let me tell you, it’s been a game-changer.
My Journey with Jotform
Let’s start with the old faithful: Jotform. As a marketer, I loved Jotform for its flexibility and robust integrations. It made pre-filling fields from UTM parameters a breeze, and pushing data to other systems without needing Zapier was a huge plus. I could automate workflows and gather data effortlessly.
What I Loved About Jotform
- Flexibility: Jotform’s ability to handle various form needs was fantastic. Whether it was a simple contact form or a complex survey, Jotform had me covered.
- Integrations: The integrations with other platforms were top-notch. Pre-filling fields using UTM parameters and seamlessly pushing data to different systems saved me so much time.
- Ease of Use: The drag-and-drop builder was intuitive, and with a bit of creativity, I could make Jotform work for almost any scenario.
The One Downside
However, there was one thing that always bugged me: the forms themselves lacked a modern look. In a world where user experience and design are paramount, Jotform’s somewhat dated aesthetics felt like a missed opportunity.
Discovering Fillout
I wasn’t actively seeking a new form solution, but sometimes the best discoveries happen by chance. I stumbled upon Fillout and decided to give it a shot. And boy, am I glad I did.
Airtable First Integration
One of the standout features of Fillout is what I’d call an “Airtable First Integration.” This was a game-changer for me. With Jotform, integrating with Airtable meant manually mapping each field. If anything changed, I had to go back and update everything in both tools to keep it in sync. It was a hassle.
Fillout, on the other hand, pulls fields directly from Airtable. This means I can build my database and fields in Airtable first, and Fillout will integrate seamlessly. This also means if I update any of the drop down options, they are automatically updated on the form.
One of my favorite features with the Airtable integration is that not only can I add new records, but I can alIso use Fillout forms to update existing records. This level of flexibility was exactly what I needed.
Show/Hide Fields Based on URL Parameters
Another feature I loved about Jotform was the ability to show or hide fields based on prefilled URL parameters. Fillout has this functionality too, which was a pleasant surprise. It’s crucial for creating dynamic forms that respond to user input and make the form-filling experience more intuitive.
Cost-Effectiveness
One of the biggest selling points for Fillout is its pricing. Fillout is significantly cheaper than Jotform, offering more robust features at a fraction of the cost. Fillout’s $15/month plan gives you 2,000 responses per month, whereas Jotform charges $49/month for just 1,000 responses.
Plus, Fillout has a more generous free plan, making it an excellent option for those just starting or needing to keep costs down.
The Transition Process
Switching from Jotform to Fillout wasn’t without its challenges, but the benefits far outweighed the initial hurdles.
Migrating Forms
Migrating forms from Jotform to Fillout was relatively straightforward. Fillout offers tools to help import data and forms from other platforms. There were a few tweaks needed post-migration, but overall, it was a smooth process.
Learning Curve
As with any new tool, there was a bit of a learning curve. However, Fillout’s user-friendly interface made it easier. I spent some time exploring the features and settings, and Fillout’s onboarding resources and tutorials were incredibly helpful.
Testing and Feedback
Before fully committing, I ran a few test forms to ensure everything worked as expected. Gathering feedback from users helped me fine-tune the forms and make necessary adjustments.
The Benefits of Fillout
So, what makes Fillout stand out? Here are a few reasons why I made the switch and haven’t looked back:
1. Enhanced Airtable Integration
Fillout’s integration with Airtable is a game-changer. I can build my database and fields in Airtable first and then use Fillout to pull those fields. This allows for more flexibility, such as updating existing records, which was a limitation with Jotform.
2. Modern Design
Fillout offers modern-looking forms that enhance the user experience. This was a major upgrade from Jotform’s dated aesthetics.
3. Cost-Effective Plans
Fillout’s pricing is significantly more affordable than Jotform’s. For $15/month, I get 2,000 responses, compared to Jotform’s $49/month for 1,000 responses. Plus, Fillout’s free plan is more generous, making it accessible for smaller projects or businesses on a budget.
4. User-Friendly Interface
Fillout’s interface is clean and intuitive, making it easy to build and customize forms without a steep learning curve.
5. Performance and Reliability
I’ve noticed a significant improvement in performance with Fillout. Forms load faster and handle high submission volumes more efficiently, ensuring a smooth user experience even during peak times.
6. Responsive Customer Support
Fillout’s customer support has been fantastic. They’re quick to respond and incredibly helpful, which makes a big difference when you’re dealing with tech issues or need guidance.
Switching from Jotform to Fillout has been a positive experience. Fillout’s focus on simplicity, customization, performance, and cost-effectiveness has made managing my forms easier and more efficient. While Jotform served me well for many years, Fillout has provided the streamlined, powerful experience I was looking for.
If you’re feeling bogged down by your current form builder or if you’re simply looking for something new, I highly recommend giving Fillout a try. It might just be the game-changer you need for better form management and a smoother workflow.
